Rainbow Nation

Rainbow Nation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Constituted with among the worlds best constitutions. Brought through a peaceful transition. A testament to democratisation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
A Melting Pot. With simmering internal tensions. Kept Hot. By a failure to uphold a commitment to reconciliation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Positioned on the tip of the continent. Simply one on a long list. Of a sorry company. Battling to conceptualise. What’s needed. What is Decolonisation?

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Avoided civil war. Now counting her deaths in increasing abstract. Misleading. Allocations.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Freedom struggle. International hope symbol. More than twenty years. Here we are. Behold our creation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Overcome Apartheid. Resistant to reflection. Watching our inequality growing. Without hesitation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Slowing progress. Job creation. Disenfranchised youth. En masse. Slinking silently into poverty. A sizable chunk of our young population.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Education. Highest percentage of our national budget. Still with Mud schools. Teacher payment. Cruel. School life. Little more than a day-time preoccupation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation. Land Ownership conversations. Desperately praying for successful black small holdings. Our future agriculture sector. Is going to need much more than welcome precipitation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Ambitious. With pockets of exceptional excellence. Seeking to be competitive. By marketing under the banner of “African” Innovation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Aware of his intentional separation from the rest of the continent. Seriously lacking in corrective action. Where is our inclusive African celebration?

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Internationally Esteemed. Marketing the African Dream. Separated. Clearly from Afro-Centered Unity. Rarely even participating. In helping us understand, what that would actually even mean.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
On a war against crime. Clearly suffering fatigue from deep psychological wounds. Ever selective in her participation with “African-isms”. Frequently conducting. Unchecked. Appropriations.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Private Security. Third biggest contributor to our economy. Insecurity. Our quickest collective ideological proliferation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Slowly transforming the economy. Impeded by lack of buy in. Corruption setting in. Still with no shortage. Of Action. Without Affirmation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Gender violence. Often appended at the back end of agendas. Treated. All too often. With flippant procrastination.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Unable it seems. To get our message across. Through protest demonstrations.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Holding tightly to information. To Apartheid History. Providing access to understanding of our context. To the Youth. With great reluctance and trepidation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation.
Trapped in this unfortunate allegory. Trying to pay our way into a space encouraging peaceful cohabitation.

South Africa. The Rainbow Nation. In possession of Fools Gold.
Approaching quickly the consequences. Of Post ’94 ill-attempted errands. Don’t say now, when “it” comes. That you haven’t been told.

The Rainbow Nation.
